Equity Action's Mission and Philosophy

Equity Action is a field of interest fund at The Rhode Island Foundation that advances the equitable treatment and improves the quality of life of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Rhode Islanders.

Equity Action provides grants to organizations and initiatives that support the LGBTQ communities. As a permanent endowment at the Foundation, the fund will grow in perpetuity, providing a resource for this mission for generations to come.

Equity Action is committed to social change in order to achieve justice within the LGBTQ community. The advisory council strategically distributes the fund’s earnings to:

• Strengthen the infrastructure of LGBTQ-led and serving organizations
• Provide educational opportunities that highlight the need for equitable treatment of LGBTQ individuals
• Advance networking and foster collaboration between LGBTQ and mainstream organizations
• Support nonprofit partners working on progressive public policy and public debate

In addition, volunteers work to enhance philanthropy by and for the LGBTQ communities and ensure support for future generations by actively soliciting gifts for the endowment.
