Community Initiatives:

Executive Director Roundtable

Up to 24 nonprofit emerging leaders will hear from three “seasoned” nonprofit professionals at this Tuesday, March 23 event, when executive directors will share their experiences and knowledge.

Sharing their experiences will be:

  • Robert DeBlois, director, Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program (UCAP);
  • Elaine Decker, executive director, The Fund for Community Progress; and
  • William Shuey, executive director, International Institute of Rhode Island

Format

There are two parts to this event: the panel portion and a more intimate roundtable question and answer. At the beginning of the program, the three executive directors will sit at a panel and share their personal stories with a group of 24 or fewer emerging leaders. The following will be addressed:

  • Each panelist's name, title, organization
  • Description of the work they do
  • How they made their way into the nonprofit sector

After all three executive directors have shared their stories, they will move to a round table which will seat up to eight emerging leaders. For 30 minutes, emerging leaders will sit with an executive director, meet each other, and hear the executive director answer the following questions:

  • What leadership challenges do you face in your organization?
  • What is the one piece of information you wish you had known before becoming a leader in the nonprofit sector?

Emerging leaders will have a chance to ask their own questions, as well as submit questions ahead of time. After 30 minutes, the emerging leaders will rotate to the next table so that by the end of the event, they will have talked with all three executive directors.

The executive director roundtable will be held Tuesday, March 23 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a light meal and networking from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.

The event is free for emerging leaders with less than 10 years experience in the nonprofit sector. Registration is required and space is limited to the first 24 registrants. Register by email.
