Rhode Island Scholarship Assistance Fund
 |
| The Westerly Lions Club established a scholarship for graduates of Westerly High School. |
Many Rhode Islanders think of higher education in the abstract. Tuition costs have risen so dramatically at both public and private institutions in recent years that college seems out of reach. And yet, it is clear that a higher education has become a prerequisite for most entry-level employment.
The Foundation is keenly aware that even with nearly 150 scholarship funds, awarding $1 million annually, the need for scholarships far outweighs the capacity of these funds. That is why in 2007 the board of directors established this new endowment. The Rhode Island Scholarship Assistance Fund will augment current funds designated for scholarships, making it possible for additional qualified and deserving students to receive assistance with their higher education.
