2016: A RECORD YEAR

Foundation awards a record $45.3 million

More than 1,600 nonprofit organizations working across eight broad sectors received a record $45.3 million in grants in 2016. The Foundation received more than $59.9 million in gifts, the second-highest total in our 100-year history.

OUR NEWEST ENDEAVOR

Honoring Roger Williams

The Roger Williams Initiative is an educational program that gives students and teachers access to a wealth of information about Roger Williams and will award college scholarships.

PHILANTHROPY

Thank you, for inspiring us

As we work to inspire greater philanthropy throughout the state, we find ourselves inspired by individuals and groups already dedicated to strengthening Rhode Island now and for future generations.

EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS

Grants 'spark' innovation, love of reading

Our Spark Grant program awarded school-wide reading grants of up to $10,000 each to elementary schools in seven communities, as well as $1,000 classroom innovation grants to 60 third grade teachers throughout the state.

ECONOMIC SECURITY

Buy Local RI Shop Hop

Last fall, we sponsored a week-long Buy Local RI Shop Hop, during which we visited some of Rhode Island's many fine retailers, eateries, and business districts throughout the state.

AN ENDOWMENT PARTNER

Black Philanthropy Bannister Fund

Bannister House was established to serve former African-American domestic servants. This new fund will support three areas which further the original focus of the facility to serve the African-American community.

MEETING COMMUNITY NEED

Investing in Kennedy Plaza

We've invested $355,000 (including $125,000 generously provided by the Grace K. Alpert Foundation) to help Amos House, Crossroads Rhode Island, and The Providence Center address the needs in Providence's Kennedy Plaza.

FOR THE GREATEST COMMUNITY GOOD

Fund for Rhode Island addresses pressing needs

The Fund for Rhode Island is our unrestricted, endowed fund that allows us to respond quickly when needs are identified, as was the case in Kennedy Plaza. We are most appreciative of our generous partners who have placed their trust in the Foundation. You, too, can help!
