INE Program Officer

The Rhode Island Foundation is the largest and most comprehensive funder of nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island. The Foundation is currently seeking a Program Officer in the Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence (INE) to assist in providing services and programs that enhance the skills and abilities of those working in Rhode Island’s nonprofit organizations. The officer works closely with the Vice President of INE to oversee programs, operations, and budget of the Initiative, ensuring that the INE fulfills its strategic directive to strengthen the nonprofit sector, with an emphasis on those organizations working within the Foundation’s strategic initiatives and primary grantmaking sectors. The INE Program Officer will specialize in one or two key areas: fund development and/or financial management.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical assistance to key nonprofits around relevant organizational capacity areas, in particular fund development and/or financial literacy and management
  • Take a lead role in designing and implementing a suite of programs that address core functions related to either fund development or financial management
  • Provide oversight of INE programs focusing on inspiring philanthropy
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of INE, develop general workshop topics, speakers, and curricula
  • In collaboration with the VP, co-lead all cohort-based programs offered through the INE (e.g., emerging leaders program)
  • In collaboration with the VP, collaborate around organizational development grantmaking
  • Coordinate program communication, registration, and planning with internal resources
  • Provide research and technical assistance support for nonprofit organizations working in areas of focus

Bachelor’s degree required. Proven experience in and ability to offer meaningful assistance to nonprofits around fund development and/or financial management. Minimum of 7 years’ experience working in a nonprofit organization or equivalent relevant nonprofit and/or administrative experience. Ability to train, teach, and facilitate presentations; prior experience preferred. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to do research and codify findings. Ability to coach and guide sensitive interpersonal discussions with external contacts.
