Data Visualization Intern

The Rhode Island Foundation is the largest and most comprehensive funder of nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island. The Foundation is currently seeking a Data Visualization Intern responsible for helping to create visual displays of quantitative data for web and print content. Supporting the evaluation and learning capacity at the Foundation, this position will focus on our strategic initiatives: economic security, educational success, and healthy lives. This is a part-time intern position of 15-20 hours per week between June and August 2018.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Review and organize data. Data will typically consist of publicly-available, secondary datasets aligned with indicators related to the strategic initiatives. For example, displays may include multi-year trends in median household income, third grade reading proficiency, and disparities in health status.
  • Assist in researching data sets as needed. 
  • Use Tableau to create user-friendly data visualizations of selected indicators.
  • Assist with formatting visualizations for web display and inclusion in related displays such as slide decks, blog posts, and print reports. 

The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge and/or experience using Tableau and be organized, detail-oriented, timely, team-oriented, highly motivated, and capable of meeting deadlines and working independently.
