Building community with music in the Park
By Chris Barnett / August 23, 2016 /   Loading Disqus...

Nearly 5,000 people joined us at Roger Williams Park to celebrate our Centennial with a concert by the Rhode Island Philharmonic. It was a wonderful celebration of our 100th anniversary – bringing together one of our state’s cultural treasures, one of our best-loved places, and many, many members of the community.

Blankets and lawn chairs spilled down the hillsides to the foot of the Temple to Music as a rare orange Sturgeon Moon lit up the night. The highlights of the two-hour program included rousing standards like the Star Spangled Banner and the 1812 Overture and fun favorites such as Star Wars and Olympic Fanfare. For anyone who couldn’t make it, there are plenty of photos and video to make the evening come alive again.
