Marie J. Langlois of Providence has been elected to a five-year term on the board of directors of The Rhode Island Foundation. Langlois, who recently retired as managing director of Washington Trust Investors, succeeds retiring director Peter Damon of Newport.

“We are indeed fortunate to have Marie join our board of directors. She is an accomplished financial investment professional with more than 30 years of experience and she has demonstrated her passion for community service and philanthropy in various leadership roles,” stated David M. Hirsch, Foundation chairman. “Marie’s personal commitment to our state’s nonprofit sector and her outstanding professional background will truly benefit the Foundation and all Rhode Islanders,” Hirsch noted.

At Washington Trust, Marie served as an advisor and portfolio manager to individuals and institutional clients. Prior to co-founding Washington Trust (previously Phoenix Investment Management Co. of Providence), Langlois worked at Fleet National Bank where she rose to senior vice president and manager of personal financial services. A 1964 graduate of Brown University and recipient of an honorary doctor of laws in 1992, Langlois served as a University trustee and as vice chancellor of the Brown Corporation from1998-2007.

Langlois has a long record of philanthropy and community service. She currently sits on the boards of Lifespan, Salve Regina University, Rhode Island Philharmonic and Music School, and Rhode Island Public Radio, and she is a member of the Champlin Foundations distribution committee. She received her M.B.A. from Harvard University and is past president of the Harvard Business School Association of Rhode Island, as well as the Providence Society of Financial Analysts and Home Health Services of Rhode Island.

“I am thrilled to join The Rhode Island Foundation’s board of directors at such an exciting time in the organization’s history,” said Ms. Langlois. “Its reputation as a trusted steward for charitable giving is well known, and its mission to meet the needs of Rhode Islanders is critical now more than ever.”

The Rhode Island Foundation’s 13-member board of directors is responsible for setting policy at the Foundation.
