Five members join Professional Advisory Council; Richard Gladney is named group’s new chairman
The Rhode Island Foundation has named five new members to its Professional Advisory Council (PAC), a 17-member group that advises the Foundation on outreach to philanthropic Rhode Islanders and their advisors. At the same time, Barrington resident Richard J. Gladney, senior vice president and managing partner for Gladney Consulting Group of Wells Fargo Advisors in Providence, has been named chairman of the Council.
Newly-named Council members appointed for three-year terms are:
James V. Aukerman, Esq., James V. Aukerman & Associates, Wakefield Estate and trust planning is just one area of focus for Mr. Aukerman whose practice also includes land conservation law, real estate law, elder law, wealth protection, retirement and financial planning. He earned an undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College and his juris doctorate at Suffolk University. A member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and National Academy of Elderlaw Attorneys, he earned his Certified Financial Planning (CFP) credentials from the CFP Board of Standards. A resident of South Kingstown, Mr. Aukerman is active with the South Kingstown Land Trust, Willow Dell Historical Association, Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America, South County Hospital, and Kingston Congregational Church.
W. Robert Kalander, Jr., CLU, ChFC, New York Life, Providence Currently a senior sales development manager for New York Life, Mr. Kalander has been in the life insurance business since 1973. He earned an accounting degree from the University of Rhode Island, as well as both Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations. He is active in the RI Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, RI Department of Business Regulation, and the Governor’s Insurance Council. He currently is president of the RI Estate Planning Council and earlier this year was recipient of the RI Society of Financial Service Professionals’ Professional of the Year Award. A resident of Jamestown, he is an elder at Quidnessett Baptist Church and is president of the Providence Rescue Mission.
John E. Leary, Edward Jones, Barrington A financial advisor with Edward Jones since 2003, Mr. Leary earlier was a wealth management advisor with Merrill Lynch and gained professional experience with Johnson & Johnson. He earned bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA., in business administration. A resident of Barrington, he is a member of the board of the East Bay Chamber of Commerce and of Bayside YMCA. He also is immediate past-chair of the inaugural St. Luke’s Annual Fund, a campaign he helped initiate. Among his accomplishments, he was on the first masters team for both the Nike Hood to Coast Relay in 2007 and the Reach the Beach Relay in 2004.
Joseph R. Marion, III, Esq., Burns & Levinson, Providence and Boston A graduate of the University of Rhode Island and Roger Williams University School of Law, Mr. Marion’s areas of practice include estate and income tax planning, conservation easements and associated tax implications, long-term care planning, probate and trust administration, and real estate conveyancing. His professional memberships include the Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Boston bar associations; Rhode Island Estate Planning Council; and the Rhode Island Planned Giving Council. A resident of Little Compton, he is on the finance committee of the URI Alumni Association, the board of directors of the Newport County Council on the Arts, and speaks on topics ranging from conservation easements to long term care and estate planning.
Robert D. Oster, Esq., Oster & Naik Law Offices, Lincoln Mr. Oster practices in the areas of domestic relations law, bankruptcy law, criminal law, estate planning, and civil litigation. A magna cum laude graduate of Boston University, he earned his juris doctorate from St. Louis University, where he served on the Law review. He serves on numerous RI Bar Association committees and is active with the Cumberland-Lincoln Boys/Girls Club, Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, Lincoln FOP, and Pawtucket YMCA. A resident of Lincoln, he is a former president of the RI Bar Association, was the 2006 recipient of the Anthony Giannini Award for service to legal educational partnerships, and was as an adjunct professor at Bryant University where he taught constitutional law.
