Eligibility

Music students perform
Students from the Community Music School at the Rhode Island Philharmonic perform at the Foundation's 2008 donor appreciation event.

The Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations serving Rhode Island. Except in cases of the Foundation Fellows Program, the MacColl-Johnson Fellowship, or our scholarship opportunities, we do not fund individuals. Groups that have not yet applied for or received a determination of their nonprofit status may work through a fiscal agent. (Review the requirements for proposals involving a fiscal agent.)

Specific grant programs may have additional eligibility criteria, so be sure to review the guidelines carefully. We encourage you to contact a member of the grantmaking staff if you have any questions regarding your suitability for a particular program.

The Foundation does not fund:

  • Entities that are not IRS-designated nonprofit organizations or units of government
  • Projects that promote or proselytize any religion. While we do fund some projects of faith-based organizations, those projects must be secular in nature.
  • Projects or initiatives that discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, race, color, creed, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any veteran's status
  • Capital campaigns or projects
