Strategy Grants support projects that address significant community challenges, strive for lasting impact, and serve disadvantaged Rhode Islanders. Strategy Grants are awarded in six sectors.
For each sector, we have developed a focus, an important issue or concern that we believe our available grant resources can most effectively address. The majority of grants awarded in each sector will fall inside these focus areas. This will allow the Foundation to cluster grant investments for maximum impact – creating opportunities for more productive evaluation, convening of grantees, and other types of assistance.

Additionally, the Foundation believes that real progress requires a mix of approaches: innovative and sustainable ideas, strong nonprofit organizations and leaders, and organizing and advocacy within each sector. Strategy Grants support a combination of these three strategies:
The Foundation reviews Strategy Grant applications on a rolling basis throughout the year. We do not commit to multi-year grant awards.
Our Signature Initiatives
In 2010, we began to increase our attention and resources within two of our sectors, education and health, to raise awareness of these critical issues and to position the Foundation as a catalyst for change. Our signature initiatives focus on:
