Program for Animal Welfare

Eight special funds at the Foundation relate to the humane treatment and protection of animals:

  • Rosa Anne Grosvenor Fund, established in 1942
  • Virginia B. Butler Fund, established in 1978
  • Abbie A. Brougham Memorial Fund, established in 1988
  • John B. and Ruth L. Kilton Fund, established in 2005 
  • Helen Walker Raleigh Fund for Animals, established in 2006
  • Dawn, Gregg and Leland Weingeroff Animal Fund, established in 2006
  • Mary Lou Crandall Fund, established in 2006
  • Vinny Animal Welfare Fund, established in 2009

These funds together generate more than $490,000 annually, enabling the Foundation to take a leading role on animal welfare issues. Funded programs include statewide humane education programs, low-cost spay and neuter clinics, and preservation of habitats for threatened species.

Purpose

Impact Grants June 11, 2010 Fund efforts to positively impact animal welfare statewide or in individual communities; approximately $260,000 is available for grantmaking in 2010

Eligibility

The Program for Animal Welfare funds organizations working to promote and/or provide humane treatment of animals and organizations working more generally on the welfare of animals (including wildlife, endangered species, companion animals, and training for assistance animals). Individuals are not eligible to receive grants.

An organization may apply for more than one grant, but we recommend you contact us to discuss your proposals in advance. Contact Inés Merchán, grant programs officer, to discuss your project ideas.
