Basic Human Needs Grants

Basic Human Needs Grants support community agencies that provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders most in need. Grants of up to $5,000 are awarded to community-based programs that provide food, clothing, housing, prescription, and utility assistance.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, and grant decisions are usually made within 4-8 weeks.

Eligibility

Organizations can receive one Basic Human Needs Grant in a given calendar year. 

Application information

To be considered for a Basic Human Needs Grant, you will need:

  • Your organization's employer identification number (EIN) or  that of your fiscal agent, if you are not a a 501(c)
  • A project budget in electronic format to upload into your application.  Project budget form.
  • An electronic copy of your 501(c) determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service to upload into your application, if you have not received previous funding from The Rhode Island Foundation.
