Recent Organizational Development Grants
The following Organizational Development Grants were made in December 2010.
Friends of Tiverton Libraries Inc - $4,000. Organizational Development and Capacity Building The board of directors of the Friends of Tiverton Libraries (FOTL) believes its ability to provide vital support to library services is in jeopardy unless they restructure, improve their capacity to develop and promote library-related programs, and significantly expand membership to create a larger pool of volunteers to share in this work. The need for organizational change comes at a critical juncture in the history of both The Friends and the Town library. Most FOTL board members are nearing retirement and unless more interest is generated among younger volunteers to step into leadership positions, FOTL could cease to exist. This could not happen at a more inopportune time. After more than 10 years of planning, the trustees of Tiverton Library Services hope to break ground for a new library in 2013. The Friends are expected to be a key contributor to this project. With this grant, FOTL will engage consultants in organizational development, finances, and marketing/communications.
Mentor Inc. Project Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning - $9,700. NRI Adult Education Merger This grant to Mentor, Inc. dba RIRAL is to support the financial and legal costs associated with a merger. This merger comes at a critical time when adult education resources are being cut statewide, and state agencies are encouraging the formation of formal networks. These networks will create a stronger and more complete organization with greater capacity to address the challenges facing adult education.
Total Small Grants for Organizational Development - $13,700.
