As part of our commitment to serving the needs of the nonprofit sector, we offer organizational development grants of up to $10,000 through the Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence (INE). We recognize that the needs of the sector are broader than our strategic priorities, and these grants are intended to support organizations that fall outside of our areas of focus
. If you are uncertain about your organization’s eligibility for these grants, please email or call Jill Pfitzenmayer
, (401) 427-4006.
Organizational development grants can be used for a variety of activities that strengthen and improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness, including strategic planning, business planning, fund development planning, marketing planning, feasibility studies, reorganization and streamlining, mergers, financial management planning or systems, and transition or succession planning.

Proposals are evaluated on the clear articulation of need, the organization’s ability to demonstrate readiness to undertake the proposed development, and the clarity of measurable outcomes of success.
Beyond these criteria, consideration will be given to organizations in the early stages of development, particularly if their work addresses a population or issue that is underserved, as well as organizations whose work shows considerable potential for long-term impact.
It is hoped that grantees will keep Foundation staff apprised of their progress and all grantees will be expected to submit a final report, describing the success of the project against its stated goals. From time to time, Foundation staff may convene grantees to share reflection and learning.
