Board Bootcamp Leadership Program

We are seeking active, passionate Rhode Islanders who are looking for ways to serve their community and make a lasting difference by helping to shape the state’s critical nonprofit sector through board service.

On April 26 and 27, 2019, we will hold a free Board Bootcamp, designed to equip participants with the awareness, skills, and capabilities to serve on a nonprofit board. In particular, we are seeking participants who are under 35, or who identify as persons of color, or as persons with low- to moderate-income, and who have never served on a board. 
 
There are two options for participation – 

1. Board Bootcamp Leadership I (capacity: 30 participants)
Friday, April 26, 4-7:30 p.m.
Rhode Island Foundation

  • A training/orientation program around board governance basics. Topics covered:
    • Introduction to the Rhode Island nonprofit sector
    • Introduction to nonprofit governance
    • Panel discussion featuring current/former board members
  • Informal networking (with snacks!) to follow 
  • Program participants receive a certificate of completion and may elect to continue to the second program or choose to seek nonprofit board membership on their own.

2. Board Bootcamp Leaders II (capacity: 12 -15 participants)
Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Rhode Island Foundation

  • Intensive all-day training program (participation in Board Bootcamp Leadership I is required).
    • Good to great governance
    • Understanding nonprofit financials
    • Board role in fund development
    • Case study/discussion around common governance challenges
  • Participants who complete Board Bootcamp Leadership II will receive:
    • Introduction to up to three nonprofits actively seeking board members
    • Professional headshot
    • Scheduled check-in sessions with workshop leaders and seasoned nonprofit board members
