Some Basic Facts about The Rhode Island Foundation

Welcome to the cyberspace home of Rhode Island's center for philanthropy. Our physical home is One Union Station, the former train station in the capital city of Providence where, for nearly one hundred years, Rhode Islanders made their connections.

You may want to review the 92-year history of the Foundation, from our first gift of $10,000 from Rhode Island Senator and industrialist Jesse H. Metcalf in 1916, to our first million dollars in assets, and our first million dollar year in grants. Meet our committed Board of Directors and staff and find the answer to the question What is a Community Foundation?

We take very seriously our role as stewards of the community's trust -- more than $600 million at the end of 2007, and growing -- and share regular information about our finance and investment strategies.

Finally, for those who still enjoy reading a well-designed, printed annual report or other publications (most of which are now available through this site), we urge you to contact us here, or via telephone, at (401) 274-4564.
