In 1939, board member Henry Sharpe called on the Foundation to embrace experiment and to back new ventures of promise. That entrepreneurial spirit — taking a risk in the hope of a breakthrough — is very much a part of the Foundation's mission today. We support best practices, projects based on unique research or experience in a field, and projects that push the boundaries. We also seek to expand and sustain programs that are highly effective, programs that continue to yield results and produce change for the better.
