Nepal: What you can do to help
By Jim Sanzi / April 29, 2015 /   Loading Disqus...
The images of devastation in Nepal are heartbreaking – poverty-stricken people crowded into dirty open spaces, lacking adequate food, shelter, water and any assurance of what tomorrow will bring. The Saturday, April 25 7.8-magnitude earthquake has claimed more than 5,000 lives, displaced half a million people, and is said to have affected eight million people.

The people of Nepal need help. If you wish to assist, consider supporting one of the following organizations, each with a history of supporting major disasters and working in Nepal:

Efforts to rebuild Nepal will continue for months, and some organizations, including the American Himalayan Foundation and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy encourage individuals to consider supporting Nepal’s medium and long-term needs. This includes support for such things as mental and physical health services, rebuilding the educational infrastructure, and rebuilding businesses to allow residents to return to work.

Individuals and companies with advised funds at the Foundation may make grant recommendations for disaster relief and rebuilding efforts through DonorCentral.
