Larry Warner has been appointed Grant Programs Officer at the Rhode Island Foundation, where he will be responsible for leading the Foundation’s activities and grantmaking in the Health sector. Since 2011, the Foundation has awarded more than $29 million in health-related grants.

“Larry’s diverse experience in the study and practice of health care make him a natural to lead one of the Foundation’s strategic priorities,” said Jessica David, the Foundation’s vice president of strategy and community investments. “He understands the role of philanthropy in sparking community change and is committed to improving the health of all Rhode Islanders.”

Warner is adjunct faculty in the University of Rhode Island’s Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Program, where he teaches Health Services Administration. Previously, he was a teaching associate in the Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership Program at Brown University and Director of Public Health Initiatives at Safer Institute.

Most recently, Warner served as the Training Officer for the Providence Fire Department. He was also a member of the Emergency Medical Services Innovations Workgroup and Overdose Data Working Group at the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The Cranston resident earned a BA in Health and Society and a Master of Public Health at Brown University. He joins the Foundation as it comes off several consecutive years of record grantmaking. Over the past five years, the Foundation has awarded more than $144 million in grants to more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations.

The Foundation focuses on four strategic priorities: educational success, economic security, healthy lives and inspiring philanthropy. In addition to health, its strategy grant program targets six other key sectors: arts and culture, children and families, education, economic security, the environment and housing.

The Rhode Island Foundation is the largest and most comprehensive funder of nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island. In 2014, the Foundation awarded $34.8 million in grants to organizations addressing the state’s most pressing issues and needs of diverse communities. Through leadership, fundraising and grantmaking activities, often in partnership with individuals and organizations, the Foundation is helping Rhode Island reach its true potential.
