Nonprofits create and manage a budget

Our Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence is committed to helping Rhode Island's nonprofit organizations acquire skills and techniques that will enable them to better achieve their organizations' missions.

Since September, staff, board members, and volunteers from our nonprofit community have gathered here at the Foundation to hear from local experts on topics that range from creating a business plan to governance and fund development basics to managing interns and volunteers. They leave each workshop with a concrete takeaway – a plan, format, or approach that can be brought back to the organization.

Larson Gunness, of Gunness Financial, recently worked with attendees on creating and managing a budget, stressing the importance of realistically identifying and tracking funding and expenses.

Join us on Thursday, December 8 for "grant writing basics." Our INE program coordinator Joanna Read will review tips and tools to successfully complete a grant seeking process — knowing when to contact the funder, deciding if your project is a good fit for a funder, writing the application and what to do after the grant. Your takeaway: a clear set of guidelines for the grant seeking process.
