Reinvesting in the arts

As part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the state received federal stimulus funds through the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts (RISCA) to retain or restore jobs in the nonprofit arts sector. By contributing $100,000 to these federal funds, the Rhode Island Foundation partnered with RISCA to award nearly $400,000 to 18 organizations across the state.

These modest grants of either $25,000 or $12,500 helped maintain the capacity of both young and established organizations, promoting a rich and vibrant array of cultural offerings for the people of Rhode Island. And dozens of arts jobs were protected in a range of organizations – from the Newport Art Museum, to Waterfire Providence, to the Slater Mill in Pawtucket.
